How to store reverse osmosis membrane elements
2024-11-22
1. New membrane elements
- The membrane elements have been tested for water passage before leaving the factory, and are stored with 1% sodium sulfite solution, and then vacuum-packed with oxygen isolation bags;
- The membrane element must be kept wet at all times. Even if it is necessary to open it temporarily in order to confirm the quantity of the same package, it must be done in a state that does not damage the plastic bag, and this state should be kept until the time of use;
- The membrane element is best stored at a low temperature of 5~10° When storing in an environment with a temperature of more than 10 °C, choose a well-ventilated place, and avoid direct sunlight, and the storage temperature should not exceed 35 °C;
- If the membrane element freezes, it will be physically damaged, so take insulation measures and do not freeze it;
- When stacking membrane elements, do not pack more than 5 layers of boxes, and make sure that the carton is kept dry.

2. Used membrane elements
- The membrane element must be kept in a dark place all the time, the storage temperature should not exceed 35°C, and it should be avoided from direct sunlight;
- There is a risk of freezing when the temperature is below 0°C, so anti-freezing measures should be taken;
- In order to prevent the growth of microorganisms during short-term storage, transportation and system standby, it is necessary to prepare sodium sulfite (food grade) protective solution with a concentration of 500~1,000ppm and pH3~6 to soak the element with pure water or reverse osmosis produced water. In general, Na2S2O5 is used, which reacts with water to form bisulfite: Na2S2O5 + H2O—
- After soaking the membrane element in the preservation solution for about 1 hour, remove the membrane element from the solution and package it in an oxygen isolation bag, seal the bag and label it with the packaging date.
- After the membrane element to be stored is repackaged, the storage conditions are the same as that of the new membrane element.
- The concentration and pH of the preservation solution should be kept in the above range, and it should be checked regularly, and if it may deviate from the above range, the preservation solution should be prepared again;
- Regardless of the circumstances under which the membrane is stored, the membrane should not be left dry.
- In addition, the concentration (mass percentage concentration) of 0.2~0.3% formaldehyde solution can also be used as the preservation solution. Formaldehyde is a stronger microbial killer than sodium bisulfite and does not contain oxygen.
